FAQ

PETIT & ME POLICY

Slot & Production Policy

A slot is a reservation of production capacity for a specific month.
By purchasing a slot, you reserve a place in our production schedule for that agreed month only.

Validity of a slot

  • A slot is valid only for the agreed production month.
  • Slots cannot be automatically transferred to another month.
  • The customer is responsible for providing the required material (wrap) and information (Order form) in time.

Deadline

The deadline for shipping the wrap and completing the order form is communicated individually in the instructions email and may vary per production month.

This deadline applies specifically to the shipped wrap and the completed order form, which are required to start production.
Design details and final specifications will be discussed together during the first week(s) of the reserved production month.

If the wrap and/or the completed order form are not received by the stated deadline:

  • The slot will expire automatically.
  • The reserved production capacity will be released.

Communication & flexibility

We understand that circumstances can change, we’re only human.
If you foresee that you may not be able to meet the deadline, please contact us before the stated deadline.

We are happy to think along where possible, within our planning and production capacity.
Any flexibility offered is at our discretion and cannot be guaranteed.

Non-delivery & expired slots

If a slot expires due to missing the deadline for shipping the wrap and completing the order form:

  • The €50 slot fee is non-refundable.
  • The slot cannot be transferred to another month by the customer.

To prevent a slot from expiring, customers are allowed to:

• swap slots with another customer who has purchased a slot for a different month
• sell their slot to another person

This can be arranged via our Chatter or through one of the Facebook babywearing groups. Any swap or sale must be communicated to us in time, so we can provide the correct and up-to-date instructions.

The slot fee is a non-refundable advance payment towards the carrier. It covers the initial hours of work invested before production begins. This includes communication, measuring, and preparation of your custom carrier.

Follow-up & communication

We will send a limited number of reminders regarding shipping the wrap / completing the order form. If no response is received, the slot will expire automatically in accordance with this policy.

Availability & planning

Slots are sold approximately three months in advance.
Due to our production planning and limited capacity, we cannot guarantee availability outside the agreed production month.

Disclaimer

Petit & Me reserves the right to make changes to the production planning if circumstances cause delays. This may include, but is not limited to, supplier lead times, material availability, or unforeseen personal or health-related circumstances.

Moth-Damaged Wraps

We’ve seen an increase in wraps arriving with moth damage. While we love giving these cherished fabrics a second life, handling them requires a lot extra care, time and sometimes also recources.

To protect all the precious wraps in our studio, we’re introducing a clear policy for moth wraps.

Sending in a moth wrap is possible — but only under the following conditions:

  • The fabric must be clearly marked where damage is found.
Please do not use tape that peels off too easily or regular pins that can fall out.
Use safety pins or strong tape and test it yourself before shipping, because if it’s too strong, it might damage the wrap.

  • The wrap must have been treated before shipping:
➤ Minimum of 2 weeks in the freezer
➤ Followed by a proper wash
➤ After a proper wash, please check thoroughly if there isn’t any new damage.

At Petit & Me Headquarters, we handle all wraps with the utmost care — but we cannot take the risk of introducing moths into our workspace.

🧵 Additional Costs for Moth Wraps

  • Freezer treatment (2 weeks): €20 (if there’s any doubt about the wrap being treated correctly. Please understand: Esther makes the final decision on whether the wrap needs to be placed back in the freezer again for safety reasons.)

  • Thorough inspection & marking: €40 if the wrap arrives without indication of damaged spots.

Esther checks every wrap very carefully and with the greatest possible attention. Still, a small chance remains that a damaged spot could be missed. We want to be transparent about this. The risk is minimal, but we must exclude any responsibility should it occur.

Thank you for understanding, and for helping us keep our P&M HQ safe while giving your beautiful wrap a new story to tell. 💛

GENERAL QUESTIONS

First, you will have to get a slot. Slots are released every first Friday of the month, on this website.

Check the Slot release schedule for the exact data.

The VIP slot is offered from time to time when time permits this FastPass.

In the Petit & Me Custom Babycarrier chatter and also on the regular FaceBook Page you will find collabs too from time to time with either semi custom slots or Ready to Sell carriers.

You might also want the check the shop if there is a carrier in stock that suits your wishes.

The VIP slots is your FastPass ticket; you will skip the waiting line and your carrier is ready to be shipped within 2 weeks after receiving the wrap! Your wrap needs to be shipped to Petit & Me within 7 days.

If you have a regular slot, it will take about 3 months before the carrier is made. Time to start thinking about your wrap! Do you want something easycare, thin & airy for summer? Or thick and wooly for winter? I am happy to assist and together we go through your stash!

You will be contacted by email and receive all instructions about The Custom Carrier Design Tool and Shipping. Designing your carrier will generate a quotation that I will check together with you when it’s time for your carrier.

If you have a VIP slot, your wrap needs to be shipped to Petit & Me within a week.

You are not the only one. Besides the emotional part, you want to choose the best wrap ever offcourse. Feel free to contact me to discuss your doubts and we will choose the perfect wrap together.

For a full wrap conversion, 2 layers, I need a wrap of at least 230 gr/m2. (For a PreSchooler I will use an extra layer of plain cotton or linen fabric on the inside for extra strength). Is your wrap thin or loose woven (mostly HW), then we also add an extra layer.

Also consider blend;  easycare or not. If you choose one of your longer wraps I might be able to do a carrier plus a RS or other extra’s.

That depends on your wishes; carrier type, size f.e. If you want a SSC full wrapconversion (inside & outside both made of your wrap), a size 3 is normally always enough. For a half conversion or semi (full straps f.e.) I require a RS for this type of carrier.

At each carrier section you can find the required size at General Info.

And; always feel free to contact me to check what the possibilities are with your wrap(scrap). Petit & Me is known for being able to do magic with very little scrap. It all depends on a combination of your wishes; carriersize & extra’s, the wrappattern, width & length.

You will be contacted by email with the shipping instructions and dates.

When shipping a wrap/scrap to me, please make sure it is well packed. Please put in a small note with your name on it.

You can ship your wrap to:

Esther van Laarhoven
Winterjan 8

Now it’s time to fill in the order form! You can find it here: go to order form.

Not sure about some details? Feel free to contact me and ask! Also; the orderform is a starting point, it’s great to have some details already figured out, but we go through the form once the wrap is in and your slot is due! So, no worries if you are still a little bit in doubt. Just fill in as much as possible and use the comment field for your doubts.

Yes, but within limits.

I appreciate you, the customer, being involved in the creative process to make a carrier uniquely yours. However, I will not alter the core elements of my carriers and reserve the right to refuse customization requests that will not measure up to the high standards of my carriers.

Also, I highly respect the core design elements of other brands of carriers that make them uniquely theirs. In light of this, please don’t ask your the carrier to be made ‘like so-and-so company’s’ design.

Exciting!! The wrap is at Petit & Me and I will contact you at the beginning of the month to go through your quotation together. We discuss all the options you selected; size, pattern placement. And, by then I can also let you know how much scrap will be left, maybe enough for a Ringsling or an accessoire?

Yes! Every month I make my own planning for the wrapconversions, and once I start with yours you will get some photo’s (if you want offcourse) and I will probably post some updates on social media.

I make all carriers 1 by 1, so maybe yours is already done at the beginning of the month, maybe it’s the last one.

Once we have the final order I will make a final invoice for you. The balance (carrier minus slot) needs to be paid before shipment, so before the end of the month.

You can choose to transfer by bank, PayPal or Wise.

By the end of your slot month, when all carriers are done, I give them all a final inspection. Then I make the last photo’s on the mannequin doll and start packing. All carriers are shipped on the last day of the month.

Please make sure the adress you fill in when buying the slot is correct, this is the address I use for shipping the carrier back. You will automatically receive an email with the track&trace code.

CARRIER RELATED QUESTIONS

Only the highest-quality hardware is used for your carrier. The buckles and webbing are specially designed for babywearing.

During the hardware production, every single buckle is individually inspected, unlike standard buckles which are only checked at random. The webbing is also specifically developed for baby carriers: it meets all safety requirements while offering an elegant, luxurious look and feel.

Shoulder straps: straight or curved

When choosing your carrier, you can choose the Petit & Me Signature Carrier, with straight straps, or the Petit & Me Signature Curved Straps Carrier.
Both are comfortable and supportive, but, in our opinion, they work best for different carrying styles.

Straight straps can be crossed on your back for front carrying, or worn straight for a backcarry.
This makes them especially comfortable for front carrying, as crossing the straps helps distribute the weight evenly across your shoulders and back.

If you mostly carry your little one in front, straight straps are often the preferred choice.
All of our carriers come with a wrap fabric chest strap for additional support.

Curved straps cannot be crossed, and are always worn straight, for both a front and a back carry.
They are shaped to follow the natural lines of your body, and provide a comfortable fit, especially when back carrying.

If you mainly carry on your back, curved straps are a great option. With back carries, there’s no need or desire to cross straps, and the curved shape provides a comfortable, secure fit.

Which straps are chosen most often

In general:

  • Standard size, pre-toddler and most toddler carriers are most often chosen with straight straps, as front carrying is still common at these stages.
  • Some Toddler and most Preschool carriers are made with curved straps, as back carrying becomes the primary way of wearing.

That said, this choice is always personal.
Some preschool carriers are still made with straight straps, depending on preference and carrying habits.

Before the straight straps became more popular, all Petit & Me Carriers were made with curved straps. As requests for straight straps increased, the Petit & Me Signature Carrier became most popular.

In short:
If you front carry (or switch between front and back), straight straps are a great choice.
If you mostly back carry, curved straps may suit you best.

If you’re unsure, we’re always happy to think along with you.

All carrier sizes can be found at the specific carrier page. The sizing is based on EU clothing size. (height of your child in cm)

It’s up to you to decide if you want a carrier that fits right now, or maybe, if you already have a carrier that fits right now, you go for a carrier that fits in a few months.

About our shoulder strap sizes

Our shoulder straps always have two parts: a padded section and an unpadded “flap.”
Strap sizes do not relate to clothing size. Where panel size relates to EU-clothing kid size, the strap size does NOT relate to your size.

Size Small – 25 cm padding, 10 cm flap
This size is only made for very petite customers and is rarely requested.

Size Regular – 30 cm padding, 15 cm flap
This is our standard strap size. About 95% of all Petit & Me carriers are made with this size.

Size Large – 30 cm padding, 20 cm flap
This size has a larger flap (the same proportions as the Zeitgeist straps).

Size Extra Large – 35 cm padding, 20 cm flap
This size adds five centimeters of extra padding compared to size L.

If you are unsure which size suits you best, we are happy to help you decide.

A full wrapconversion means the whole carrier is made from your wrap, inside & outside.

A Half wrapconversion is made from your wrap on the outside, combined with plain linen or cotton.

A Semi wrapconversion is inbetween a full and a half. Mostly it’s a carrier with the shoulderstrap completely made of your wrap, and the backpanel & waist half.

If you choose a half or semi conversion, or you simply don’t have enough wrap for a full, I will discuss the linen / cotton color options with you once the wrap is in. I will put the color samples on your wrap and send you pictures.

The regular waist is completely filled with closed cell foam. The combowaist is a combination of closed cell foam in the middle for support and soft foam on the side.

Yes and no. If you have a very small scrap and I make a calculation for 1 size, it might be possible we can’t upgrade the size once the slot is coming up. Let me know in case you have doubts on what size to choose.

Before I start cutting I always go through the quotation with your wishes one last time. To double check size (and all your other wishes). Do you want a carrier to grow in, or do you need one that fits at THAT moment?

All left over scraps larger than 5 cm will be sent back to you with the finished product.

OTHER QUESTIONS

Care instructions

We recommend spot cleaning first whenever possible.

If needed, hand wash in cold or lukewarm water using a mild detergent without bleach.
Lay the carrier flat on a towel or drying rack while drying. This supports the fabric evenly and helps prevent stretching caused by the weight of the wet material.

Machine washing is not recommended.
The most suitable washing method depends on the fabric used and may vary per material, such as silk, wool, or cotton.

If you choose to machine wash, this is at your own risk and only suitable for washing machines with a truly gentle delicate cycle.

If you do machine wash:

  • Close all buckles
  • Place the carrier inside a pillowcase
  • Use cold or lukewarm water and a mild detergent without bleach
  • Wash separately
  • Avoid spinning or use a low spin setting only
  • Do not use fabric softener
  • Do not tumble dry

Ironing
Ironing is allowed and may help set the fibers back in place after washing. Use an appropriate temperature for the fabric used. Avoid ironing the webbing and buckles.

That is also possible offcourse! Just go to the shop:

Here you can click and order your Ringsling conversion. You can choose between a gathered or folded shoulder. And offcourse always with the Petit & Me engraved rings!
